There are so many things we love about the Dominican Republic. It's a beautiful place with beautiful people. It's hard to narrow it down to five, but here are the top five things each of us loves about the DR. As you'll see, we are unanimous in our overall favorite!
David's Top 5
5. The traffic. One of the first things visitors to the Dominican Republic notice is the unpredictable traffic patterns. It's not that there aren't traffic laws, it's just that they're not really enforced and so people do what they need to do to get where they need to get. It's not uncommon to see three or four cars sharing two lanes!
4. The weather.
3. My good friends who live there.
2. Quina and her churches.

5. Merengue. This soda is best described as an orange cream soda. You can buy bottles of this delicious beverage for as little as 15 pesos (about 40 cents). Merengue is also the name of a popular style of music in the Dominican Republic.
4. Being with our Dominican friends.
3. Sharing God's love.
2. Quina.

5. Sunshine.
4. Spanish.
3. The food.
2. The culture. The Dominican culture is difficult to describe, but I'll give it a shot. It is a Caribbean island with a Spanish heritage, so if you know anything of those two cultures you've got a good start at understanding the Dominican Republic. Family is very important. Having fun is very important. Enjoying other people's company is also very important. In the cities the pace is fast, but the stress is low. In the country the pace is much slower and the stress remains low. There are many more ways to describe the culture, but that should give you a decent picture for now.

5. Merengue soda.
4. Motorcycles everywhere! I love riding motorcycles and there are a ton of them in the Dominican Republic. Motorcycles are an affordable means of transportation and use less gas, which costs more than $6/gallon there. It's not uncommon to see an entire family riding together on one motorcycle.
3. The language.
2. Laid-back culture.
